Buffer size & latency

Pick the right buffer for your setup, and what the numbers mean.

Latency is the time between touching a pad and hearing a note. It depends on the connection and, with Skaleton Sound, on the audio buffer.

Typical latency per connection

  • USB: about 1–3 ms

  • WiFi: about 5–15 ms

  • Bluetooth: about 10–30 ms

Buffer size in Skaleton Sound

A smaller buffer feels tighter but asks more of the iPad. If you hear clicks or stutter, raise the buffer one step. If it feels sluggish, lower it.

  1. Open Settings → Audio.

  2. Choose a buffer size. 256 is a good start.

  3. Play fast repeated notes and listen for clicks.

Tip: these figures are typical, not promises. Older iPads and busy WiFi will add a bit.
